Aging and Supportive care Programs for Innovation and Research Engagement
The ASPIRE Center of Excellence was created to empower research, collaboration, and development of inititaitves which improves the quality of care for older adults across the care continuum.
Our
Research Objectives
Frailty Risk Factors and Interventions
We are working to identify optimal screening and intervention strategies for frailty in older adults to reduce the burden of disease development and improve quality of life.
Long COVID
We are researching the effects of different treatment strategies on targeting known pathophysiological pathways in Long COVID. We are also developing better screening tools to identify and trend disease recovery objectively.
Perioperative and Postoperative Age-Friendly Care Management
We are researching effective intervention strategies to screen and optimize high-risk older adults prior to elective surgery and during the postoperative period.
Delirium Risk Interventions and Systems Management
We are creating an integrated screening, prevention, and management protocol to determine if it is effective at reducing the rates of delirium, length of stay, and mortality
Opioid Optimization in Advanced Cancer Patients
We are evaluating tools and interventions to reduce the amount of opioids required in the management of advanced cancer pain, while achieving better pain and symptom control.

ASPIRE seeks to transform the care of older adults by finding innovative ways to improve care and drive quality
Our
Quality ImprovementObjectives
System Engineering Integration into Quality Improvement
We are working to identify ways systems engineering can be integrated into quality improvement initiatives.
Opioid Standardization Protocols in Palliative Medicine
We are working to standardize opioid prescribing practices by building in safeguards, treatment algorithms, and monitoring to ensure supportive care patient receive the high level of care
Perioperative and Postoperative Age-Friendly Standardization
We are working to standardize the care, treatment, and management of older adults in the perioperative and postoperative care environment. These efforts will help improve patients' optimization prior to and after surgery, enhancing their access to age-friendly care.
Delirium Risk Quality Standards
We are working to improve delirium care by creating a quality standard for screening, prevention, and intervention. These efforts will help apply all components of the 4M model of care, raising the level of age-friendly care for our patients.
